Andrew,

It's fascinating and (of course) disconcerting that a State agency would fight this hard NOT to receive public input. By the way. . . The fact that you were denied the land records on the basis that they are old and fragile and in Tallahassee also seems absurd. When was the last time someone sent you an original copy of a record? It seems like these documents are in State possession and readily accessible and that someone should be able to photograph or photocopy the docs for you as they would with any other record. If anything, the State should be held accountable for maintaining records in a condition suitable for public use, and that creating a digital archive should be legally mandated in cases where the State deems that the fragility of a record might otherwise restrict public access.
